Buyer guide

Preparing a marble or tile enquiry

Organise dimensions, finish, area, appearance references and packing for a project brief.

1. Describe the application

Give the project team’s requirements for the area where the material will be used.

  • State whether you need natural stone, marble, ceramic or porcelain.
  • Describe the floor, wall, countertop or other intended application.
  • Attach the project specification and any required test parameters.

2. Prepare a dimension schedule

Record each size separately so that the quantity can be reviewed clearly.

  • Give length, width and thickness with units.
  • State the area in square metres or the number of slabs or pieces.
  • For cut-to-size work, attach drawings and identify edge details or cut-outs.

3. Make appearance expectations clear

Use references that can be discussed before product selection.

  • Share colour, pattern and surface-finish references.
  • Describe any matching, layout or shade preferences.
  • Agree how photos, samples and the final selection will be reviewed.

4. Specify packing and handling

Tell us the destination and handling details already known for the project.

  • State any crate, pallet, carton or protective-packing requirements.
  • Ask for pack quantities and shipment dimensions to be stated in the offer.
  • Identify the delivery location, access constraints and target date.

5. Check the quotation against the schedule

Review the final offer with the person responsible for your project specification.

  • Match the offered material, size, thickness, finish and quantity to your brief.
  • Clarify any selection, sample or test approval still outstanding.
  • Confirm packing, price, lead time and delivery responsibilities in writing.
